NABL

The Food Quality Testing Laboratory of the School Of Food Sciences and Technology of Karunya University has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board For Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The accreditation has been currently given for the analysis of oils with specific reference to Saponification Value, Iodine value, Peroxide and Acid values. The laboratory set up in 2008, started commercial testing in 2009 and thereafter applied for the NABL accreditation and we got the same in 2011. It has since then been testing commercial edible oil samples in line with the latest methodologies of testing as underlined by the Bureau of Indian Standards And Associated of Official Analytical Chemists.


The NABL is an autonomous body under the agencies of the Department Of Science and Technology, Government of India, solely responsible for accrediting testing and calibration laboratories. The accreditation provides formal recognition in that customers can find reliable testing services to meet their demands. Also, reports sent by a NABL accredited lab is recognized and holds validity in almost 45 countries the World over. Efforts are underway to expand the scope of the lab to testing of water and spices.

FSSAI

Food Processing & Training Centre:

This is a centre for training entrepreneurs and semi skilled women in the basic techniques of food preservation. Further this centre does technology transfer to entrepreneurs seeking to start their own Food Processing Industry. This centre has been providing training for over 100 delegates per year since its inception in 2007. The training centre is a certified license holder under the Fruit Product Order, 1955 and lately has its license extended under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2011
