The main objective of this course is to produce world class professionals with wide knowledge of latest technologies and to enhance the skills in designing VLSI systems to match the ever increasing demand of the cutting-edge technology. This programme aims to prepare students for leading edge positions in industry in the areas of VLSI. It also focuses to achieve excellence in research using the latest technologies.VLSI students are in great demand in various core companies like Intel, IBM, Texas Instruments, Cadence, Synopsis, Mentor Graphics etc.  VLSI students are also wanted by major IT companies such as TCS, Wipro, Infosys, CTS and Accenture.  Research opportunities in premier institutes such as IITs, NITs, and abroad universities in the latest areas of the programme are available. 


The course includes learning the basic principles of CMOS VLSI design flow and designing and fabricating the state of-the-art VLSI chips for industrial requirements. The programme curriculum is aimed at VLSI system design, Hardware description Languages, System Architectures, Physical design, Verification techniques, Low power design techniques, Mixed mode design methodologies,solid state device modeling, ASIC design, VLSI signal processing, Analog VLSI design, semiconductor memory design,solid state device modeling and fabrication, and MEMS. 


The VLSI Design Lab was set up in the year 2004 as an integral part of the of Electronics & Communication Engineering programme.The VLSI Lab is equipped with the most up-to date industry standard VLSI EDA tools and hardware resources. Our research spans from materials and device structures to circuits and design systems.  The research works include design of ADCs and other RF circuits for Bio-medical and Wireless Communications, design of different memory structures for various applications and analyzing and modeling of devices for digital and analog applications.

I am 26 year old research scholar, now in my fourth year of research at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, popularly known as IIT Madras. I hold a B.E degree in Electronics and Communication (2009) and M.Tech degree in VLSI design (2011) from Karunya University, Coimbatore. I couldn't have made the transition from Karunya University to IIT without the extra academic support the faculty had provided. Karunya University gives students the foundation they need to succeed. The excellence of our faculty, the strength of our prayers and our commitment to the education has placed the University at the forefront of Indian higher education. The teachers, how much they care and how experienced they are, truly makes the difference. They do research in the field they are teaching and that grabbed my attention a lot. Their academic expectations and desire to see me excel in my carrier made me work much harder. Karunya University had been and will always be the perfect place for me because I received a lot of individual attention and special care. The teachers truly care about our success and make us feel like a second home. I wholeheartedly endorse Karunya University and everything for which it stands. Attending Karunya University was invaluable to my career, which made me a better person and my parents proud.I am grateful for everything that Karunya University fulfilled in my life.

I did my Bachelors in Karunya University, God crowned me with Gold Medal, complemented by campus placement in TCS. While I was preparing myself to join TCS with all expectancy and anxiety, God led me again to Karunya to do my MasterProgramme in VLSI Design. He gave me wonderful staff members who profusely planted in me the analyzing capacity and helped me in understanding the tough concepts and algorithms and in turn created a deep interest in me towards my subjects. He gave me the privilege to do my Master project for 6months in a reputed University in Germany through IAESTE. Today, I am pursuing my Ph.D in Germany and stand as a living testimony to declare that nothing isimpossible with God and His ways are far beyond our comprehension. Iwould attribute my success and glory to God Almighty and to thefounding family of Karunya for their response to God's vision bymaking me the person who I am today. I would in special way thankIAESTE which is unique in Karunya, my HoD, and the dedicated facultieswho were instrumental in my journey through their prayers and support.
